Malta lost 0-6 against Slovakia in the final match of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying group at Ta’Qali Stadium, suffering a second major setback.

Malta was defeated 1-7 by Croatia on Friday. Malta finished last in the group, with a goal differential lower than Cyprus, as a result of two major defeats.

The game grew much more difficult after two Maltese players were sent off immediately after the break, and Slovakia went on to win the net three more times till the end.

The start was promising with Satariano claiming for a penalty after two minutes, but the Frosinone striker only received a yellow card from the Croatian referee who was anything but helpful. On six minutes in their first real attack Slovakia broke the deadlock when Strelec chested towards Rusnak who drilled home.

Dida scored the game’s second goal just one minute later. Rusunak scored the third goal after 15 minutes with a low shot.

Because the Slovaks were able to effortlessly manage the game, it lost its appeal.

The game was further ruined by the red cards given to Kamensuri and Teuma early in the second half, with Duda (twice) and Demarco adding three more goals.

Slovakia coach Stefan Tarkovic also made a whole revolution to the side, with eight changes from the last outing against Slovenia. Cologna striker Duda was their hero with a hat trick.
