Real Madrid won all three points at Los Carmenes after goals from Marco Asensio, Nacho Fernandez, Vinicius Junior, and Ferland Mendy. Granada’s Luis Suarez scored to tie the game at 2-2, but Los Blancos reasserted their dominance after Vinicius’ goal.
Carlo Ancelotti chose Nacho at center-back alongside David Alaba, while Asensio was named in the attack alongside Karim Benzema and Vinicius. Ancelotti’s hard work paid off almost immediately, as Asensio scored the game’s first goal after collecting a precise pass from Toni Kroos and outracing Granada defender German Sanchez before blasting into the net.
Minutes later, Kroos was involved in the second Real Madrid goal, finishing a one-two with Luka Modric with a pass that met Nacho at the front post and was redirected into the net by the defender for a 0-2 lead.
In the first half, though, Granada equalized owing to an error by Vinicius, whose errant pass resulted in a Granada break and a Luis Suarez shot that deflected off of Nacho and into the goal, making the score 1-2 at halftime.
