Dutchman Van Bronckhorst replaces Steven Gerrard at Rangers

Former Dutch international Giovanni van Bronckhorst is on the verge of taking over as manager of Scottish giants Rangers FC.

Rangers were obliged to look for a new manager when Gerrard quit joining Premier League side Aston Villa last week.

According to Sky Sports, a decision has been taken to pick van Bronckhorst as Gerrard’s successor.

Van Bronckhorst played with Rangers from 1998 to 2001, collecting five trophies, including two league titles, before moving on to play for Arsenal and Barcelona.

After retiring from Feyenoord in 2010, the 46-year-old joined the club’s coaching staff under Ronald Koeman before taking full control in 2015.

In his first full season in command, he guided Feyenoord to the KNVB Cup, followed by the Eredivisie title the following year, the club’s first in 18 years.
