Jorginho: Chelsea midfielder win Uefa men's player of the year award |

Jorginho, a Chelsea and Italy midfielder, has been awarded UEFA Men’s Player of the Year for the 2021/21 season.

The 29-year-old defeated Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Chelsea teammate N’Golo Kanté to win the award. The award was presented in Istanbul at the UEFA Champions League group stage draw for the 2022/23 season.

Chelsea’s metronomic midfielder was the ideal foil for Kanté as they dominated European powers Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid, and Manchester City en route to UEFA Champions League victory.

In Chelsea’s quarter-final opening against Porto, he was named Player of the Match, demonstrating his ability to influence play and justifying Thomas Tuchel’s decision to make him part of his first-choice midfield duo. Roberto Mancini took notice and made the 29-year-old the pivot of Italy’s EURO-winning team.
