Xavi accepts offer to become Barcelona coach

Following Ronald Koeman’s dismissal, Barcelona icon Xavi Hernandez has accepted an offer to coach the Catalans.

Following Barcelona’s 1-0 LaLiga loss to Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday evening, Koeman was relieved of his duties. Following a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in the El Clasico over the weekend, the Catalans have now lost two games in a row.

Barcelona has already named Sergi Barjuan as the interim manager, who will command the club until a permanent coach is found.

According to the latest sources, Xavi is poised to be named coach, with the deal set to be finalized once an agreement to terminate his contract as manager of Qatari club Al Sadd is achieved.

Following conversations with the club’s president, Joan Laporta, the former Barcelona star is said to have accepted to return to the Nou Camp.

During his stint with the Spanish giants, the 41-year-old won LaLiga eight times and the Champions League four times. Xavi left Barcelona in 2015, having won 27 trophies and scoring 85 goals and making 184 assists.
